Welcome to 2015

Just by chance everything has aligned so my first blog post happens to fall on the first bloom day of the year. I'm cheating a little, because some of these I took yesterday when we had sun.

These little plants are amazing, I have been neglecting my garden because of cold and windy weather. I could only stay out a few minutes to taking these, at least I had the warm sun and not rain yesterday. Some of these I bought in the spring, and they are annuals! They are determined to live, with little help from me in harsh (for them) weather.

The only things still blooming at this point are the gilliflowers (bought in spring) and primrose (bought a few weeks ago, which is why they are still nice.)

I would have had more blooms but the gilliflowers I bought last month died over the weekend.

I'm hoping this one in particular lasts till spring, and will be one of the few I'll take in if it snows. It's a vintage mix, so it's got antique-ish pink, purple, and cream. If it doesn't I will be sure to look out for something similar once it warms up.

This one is the lone survivor of a big tied planter set up with gilliflowers, pansies, verbena, and petunias. It didn't really work out in the long run, and this year I'll probably not use it, or take it apart and use the layers separately. We'll see.

Like I mentioned before, I bought these primroses a few weeks ago, but they are a bit burned from the freezing wind.

I take most of my pictures on my iphone, and it doesn't do reds/oranges and blues/purples very well, which I tend to gravitate towards in flower colors. Just trust me the are beautiful in person.

And I know it's not blooms, but it's blooms to be!

I'm really hoping the snowdrop bulbs made it, but I think these maybe crocuses, I haven't grown either before this year, That just about wraps it up I guess! Here is the link for others participating in Bloomday this month.
